Nate Schimelfenig scored the 1,000th point of his career and finished with 18 points to lead West Scranton to a 53-44 win over Wallenpaupack in a Lackawanna Division I boys basketball game.

Schimelfenig needed only four points coming into the game to achieve the milestone, and did so with 4:40 left on the clock in the first quarter.

Brian Fried added 13 points and Jahmeir Rivera scored 12 for the Invaders (8-12, 5-7).

Nick VanBuskirk scored 15 points and JP Yeo made three 3-pointers for nine points to lead Wallenpaupack (7-13, 3-9).

Girls basketball

Lily Mancino scored 10 of her 16 points in the third quarter to help Wallenpaupack rally for a 59-49 win over West Scranton in a Lackawanna League girls basketball game.

Ashley Vanderputten scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and finished with a team-high 17 points for the Lady Buckhorns (8-12, 3-9).

Lillian Williams added nine points for Wallenpaupack.

Morgan Baumgardner led West Scranton (3-17, 0-12) with 17 points. Aubrey Kerrigan added 15 for the Lady Invaders.

Hughesville 53, Elk Lake 28: Maddie Smith scored 15 of her 24 points in the first half to lead the Spartans to a nonleague victory.

Vivian Draper and Anna Easton each scored seven points for Hughesville (20-2).

Laci Ayotte scored eight points for Elk Lake (12-8).
