As excitement builds for the Super Bowl, the Duryea VFW hosted a cornhole and “chili bowl” event where supporters could donate and try all the different chilies.

DURYEA, Pa. — The Super Bowl may be this weekend, but in Luzerne County, a more serious competition is taking place.

The Duryea VFW hosted its annual cornhole tournament and “chili bowl” ahead of the big game, with proceeds from the event supporting the community.

“Everything for the VFW, and you know, usually we turn that back onto the community for veterans initiative. We’re supporting a little league and local football teams are things like that,” said Commander Danny Stella of the Duryea VFW.

Organizers say that even if cooking wasn’t your thing, supporters could donate $5 and try all the chilies themselves.
