CATASAUQUA, Pa. – Authorities in Lehigh County are investigating after a student brought a gun into a school.

It was found just before the end of the school day at the Innovative Arts Academy charter school in Catasauqua.

Catasauqua Police were called around 1 p.m. Tuesday to the school for a report of a student with a gun.

“I’m holding an armed person at Innovative Arts Academy, 330 Howertown Road, for a 17-year-old male who is in possession of a firearm with multiple magazines,” a police radio reports.

The weapon was retrieved by staff, and the teen was held in the office until police arrived. When officers got there, they took possession of the firearm.

69 News spoke with a woman who lives nearby who has a child of her own. She says what happened is worrisome.

“My sister and I have been going back and forth about even sending him to school and even just homeschooling him because it’s very unsettling that he could go to school one day and somebody brings in a gun,” says Morgan Biggs, a neighbor.

Innovative Arts Academy sent the following statement to 69 News:

“An unfortunate incident occurred at the school this afternoon 10/21/25. Law enforcement was contacted promptly, and the situation is under control.

Our internal protocols and training identified this situation quickly and avoided a potentially more serious situation. We value safety and security at Innovative Arts Academy.

Per police investigation, it appears as though there was no intent, nor was anyone in imminent danger. We will continue to ensure a safe learning environment for our students and staff.”

Police say there is no threat to the public or the school.

At this point, police have not said whether the student could face any charges.
