READING, Pa. – A significant overnight power outage in Reading is affecting a wide area of the city, and preparations are underway to assist those needing a place to warm-up or recharge their devices.
Reading fire officials have announced three warming/charging locations to open beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday:
– 3rd & Spruce Recreation Center, 320 S 3rd St, Reading, PA 19602
– 10th & Penn Elementary School, 955 Penn St, Reading, PA 19601
– Pendora Olivet’s Boys and Girls Club, 330 S 19th St, Reading, PA 19606
These stations will not have food or sleeping accommodations, they are just places for people to charge up and get warm.
People are encouraged to bring their own charging chords/power strips as the centers do run out of outlets.
MetEd says their goal is to have power restored by 8 p.m. Sunday. Crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible after an equipment issue at a local substation caused an outage overnight.Â
This is a developing story. More information regarding the outage and city services will be updated as it becomes available.
