Lake Erie was almost completely covered in ice on Sunday, February 8.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory found that Lake Erie was over 95 percent covered in ice on Sunday.

According to one report, Lake Erie has only been 100 percent covered by ice three times since record keeping began in the early 1970s: in 1978, 1979, and 1996.
