BOYERTOWN, Pa. – A school district that spans Berks and Montgomery counties is reviewing protocols and procedures with a bus company.

It comes after the district says police stopped a bus during drop-off and removed the driver.

“Kids nowadays can be pretty wild. They could have laughed at it or been traumatized by it, I don’t know,” said Anthony Marinaro of Boyertown.

According to a letter provided to 69 News from the Boyertown Area School District, the district was notified by Quigley Bus Service that the driver for Bus #1 was stopped on a route by law enforcement during the Friday afternoon elementary drop-off and taken into custody.

The district did not specify what the driver was taken into custody for.

“It’s def messed up. It’s def gonna cause some sort of problems for them. It’s kind of hard to trust someone again after seeing something like that,” said Eric Simmons of Pottstown.

The district says it’s going over protocols and reinforcing expectations.

Those we spoke to here on the streets of Boyertown echo what the district said in its statement calling for more oversight.

“I think the school district’s handling it pretty well. Having more transparency is the thing you need to do with something like this,” Eric said.

The letter says the students on the bus moved to another bus and everyone got home safe. The district calls the incident concerning and says it’s grateful for a quick response. The district also says it’s in close contact with Quigley Bus Company as the company confirmed with the district that it is doing an internal review.

“I’m sure it’s tough for parents too. They want their kids to get to school safely,” Anthony added.

The district says counselors and administrators are available if students need support.

The district shared the following statement with families and staff following the incident:

February 6, 2026

Good evening BASD Families and Staff,

Late this afternoon, the Boyertown Area School District was notified that a Quigley Bus Service driver for Bus #1 (services BASH and BES) was stopped by law enforcement during the afternoon elementary drop-off route and taken into custody. All students on board were promptly transferred to another bus, and all riders arrived home safely. We recognize that this incident is concerning, and we are grateful for the swift response that prioritized student safety.

The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and are in close contact with Quigley Bus Service as they conduct their internal review. Quigley has confirmed to the District that this driver will not operate any routes for Boyertown going forward.

We are reviewing our transportation protocols with our contractor to reinforce expectations and strengthen oversight. We will share additional information as appropriate, consistent with student privacy and the ongoing law enforcement process.

If your child has questions or needs support, our school counselors and administrators are available. If you have immediate concerns related to this incident, please contact the District Office or your school principal.

Thank you for your continued partnership and trust as we work to ensure safe, reliable transportation for all students.

Sincerely,

Scott Davidheiser, Ed.D.
