A man is facing charges, after being accused of leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car.

The suspect is identified as 36-year-old Javarius Bumpers.

According to police, he was wanted for parole violations out of Buffalo, New York.

The chase came to an end Sunday afternoon, at the West 26th Street and I-79 interchange.

Bumpers is accused of stealing a car that was left running in an alley off of West 18th and Chestnut Streets.

After the owner reported it stolen, Erie Police spotted the vehicle about an hour later.

When officers went to pull him over, police accuse Bumpers of leading them on a high-speed chase throughout the city.

Police say Bumpers lost control of the vehicle near the I-79 ramp and crashed into a snow bank.

Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah says he was then arrested shortly after running from the scene.

“These are crimes of opportunity,” said Chief Lorah.  “Had that vehicle been locked and not on, (Bumpers) probably wouldn’t have taken that vehicle.  If you have to do it, at least lock the vehicle and make sure no one is going to jump into that.  This individual started the vehicle up, tried to get it warm, and then came out and it was gone.”

An Erie Police Department SUV was also damaged after it side-swiped the stolen vehicle.

No officers were injured.
