Swim teams are looking to win championships as the Lackawanna League season finishes this week.

There are meets all week, starting on Tuesday, and then the competition concludes with the Les Richards Swimming and Diving Championships at Scranton High School.

Elk Lake is at West Scranton at 4:30 p.m., and Wallenpaupack is at Holy Cross on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the University of Scranton.

On Wednesday, Dunmore competes against Abington Heights at 4:30 p.m., and Valley View is at Scranton at 4:30 p.m.

Abington Heights boys can complete an undefeated and a championship season with a win. The Lady Comets are searching for a win, then some help to grab a share of the league championship.

That assistance could come from Delaware Valley. Thursday is the final day of the regular season, and the undefeated Scranton Prep girls team competes at Delaware Valley at 4:30 p.m. If Scranton Prep wins, it claims the league championship. If Delaware Valley wins, the Lady Warriors would share the championship with Scranton Prep, and if Abington Heights wins on Tuesday, it would be a tri-champion.

Scranton Prep defeated Abington Heights, 86-80, in the regular season. Abington Heights beat Delaware Valley, 112-72, last week. There is one caveat to the Scranton Prep at Delaware Valley meet. There will be a diving event, which did not happen when Scranton Prep competed against Abington Heights. Delaware Valley has a diving board and can host the event. When Scranton Prep hosts meets at the University of Scranton, the diving event is not scored.

Scranton Prep’s Rebecca Oakes is ranked 19th in the state for the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.41 according to paswimming.com. Teammate Eva Kaszuba is ranked 20th in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.12).

Wallenpaupack is at West Scranton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Friday, the Les Richards Diving Championships will be held at Scranton High School at 4:30 p.m.

The event is an 11-dive competition. Abington Heights’ Micah White is ranked 34th, and teammate Ryan Horutz is ranked 37th in the state. Tunkhannock’s Blayne Roosa is ranked 36th. Last season, Horutz finished second to his brother, Ethan Horutz, who set a meet record with a score of 510.20, and White finished fourth.

The swimmers hit the pool on Saturday at 10 a.m. The swimming competition will be held straight through based on times. There are no final races. This is a switch from previous years, when athletes raced in preliminary heats to qualify for the evening finals.
