Firefighters made quick work of a house fire Tuesday morning in the 700 block of Morgan Avenue in Drexel Hill.

“About 7 a.m. I smelled smoke so I asked my daughter Charlotte to look out the window. It looked like the house was on fire,” said Claire Anderson, who lives next door. “We heard a pop before 7,and we were wondering what that was, because there is always an accident on State Road (a few houses down). When we called they asked was it the accident or the house.”

There were no injuries and the owner of the home was away at the time, officials said.

Anderson said the flames shot up the side of the house above the garage and porch.

Traffic in the area was disrupted through the rush hour.

Springfield, Lansdowne and Manoa fire companies assisted the Upper Darby units.

Deputy Chief Dennis Gallagher said the fire extended from the garage into the porch.

Crews had the fire under control in 20 minutes. The cause is under investigation, he added.
