Theresa (Durkalo) Bohenek
OBITUARY
Theresa (Durkalo) Bohenek, a longtime Taylor resident, passed away Friday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was 83 years old.
On May 8, 1965, she married the love of her life and beloved husband, Walter Bohenek. The couple celebrated sixty years of marriage. Born on April 9, 1942, and raised in North Scranton, Theresa was a graduate of the Villa Joseph Marie High School in Holland, Penna. After marriage, she briefly worked for Emory Worldwide in Newark before returning home to raise a family. Prior to retirement, she worked in sales customer service for the Herff-Jones Company.
Theresa certainly lived her life to the fullest. From annual summer family road trips to countless spontaneous drives throughout the United States as Walter’s co-pilot to multiple European vacations with her friends, Theresa was always up for an adventure especially if it meant being with her loved ones. She long-remained the keystone to her family, hosting countless holiday dinners and welcoming her grandchildren for elongated stays at every opportunity. Not to be forgotten, she was a die-hard Penn State Nittany Lion fan following the team all the way to the Rose Bowl.
As important as family was to her, equally was her faith. She was a devoted Roman Catholic and longtime member of the former St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge and now, Prince of Peace Parish. To be forever loved by her family and friends, she will never be forgotten.
Along with Walter, she is survived by her three children, Ken Bohenek of Taylor, Christine Flanagan and husband Greg of Harleysville and Karen Sardella and husband Andrew of Downingtown; her seven grandchildren who adored their grandma, Jillian and Nicholas Bohenek, Carly and Alexa Flanagan, Corrina, Anna and Andrew Sardella; and her brother, Michael Durkalo of Olyphant. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Daniels and Joan Golden.
A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish. Private burial, Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until Mass. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Theresa’s name to Prince of Peace Parish c/o 123 W. Grace St., Old Forge. Arrangements are under the care of Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Please visit the funeral home’s website for directions or to leave a condolence.
