PITTSBURGH, PA — The good news is that one of the city’s most popular pizzerias will be expanding its currently small location. The bad news is that expansion will mean the end of a decades-old popular neighborhood bar next door.

Fiori’s Pizzaria on Capital Avenue in Brookline will be taking over the space currently occupied by Slick’s, which will close at the end of the month. Fiori’s is located next door to Slick’s and owns its building.

The owners of Slick’s have made their feelings about the impending closure known via a note posted on the tavern’s front door.

“After an estimated 60+ years, this space will no longer be your super nice, very clean, warm and welcoming neighborhood bar,” the note states.

“It goes without saying this bar closing soon has everyone devastated, from us the owners, the bartenders and of course the numerous customers who may have been coming here the entire time we owned it and even prior to that.

“Oh the memories from the generations of people that frequented Slick’s. So sad!”

Fiori’s owner Fiorentino Moscatiello told WTAE-TV that an Allegheny County Health Department edict triggered the pizzeria’s impending expansion. The health department is demanding that Fiori’s adds restrooms and become handicapped accessible.
