ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Thursday night’s blast in Pottstown is similar to a natural gas explosion that happened in Allentown more than a decade ago.

That one rocked the city in February 2011 on 13th and Allen streets.

It leveled eight homes and killed five people, including a teenage mother and her baby.

After more than a year of investigating, authorities found that UGI failed to see that the gas line needed repairs.

Since then, the company has been replacing the old, cast iron pipes.
