DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — The Lackawanna County Coroner has officially ruled the death of a Dunmore man who was shot Sunday evening as a homicide.

Coroner Tim Rowland identified the victim as 47-year-old Frederick Zantowsky Jr. of Dunmore. Rowland said Zantowsky died from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was wounded at his home in Dunmore and later died at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.

Dunmore Borough police were called to a residence in the 400 block of Mortimer Street for a reported domestic disturbance. Zantowsky was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian Gallagher previously stated that Zantowsky was intoxicated at the time of the incident and allegedly pointed a firearm at family members, including his son and an 8-year-old child. Authorities say Zantowsky’s son fired one shot, striking him.

The district attorney’s office is continuing to review the case, including a possible “defense of others” claim.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released.
