Berks County is about to mark a significant milestone, and the celebration will begin in March.

Officials will kick off a yearlong celebration of the 275th anniversary of the creation of the county at a special event on March 11 at Reading Area Community College’s Miller Center for the Arts.

Berks was incorporated on March 11, 1752, from parts of Lancaster, Chester and Philadelphia counties.

The March 11 event marks the beginning of a countywide commemoration honoring the county’s past, celebrating its present and looking to its future. Officials say the public is encouraged to attend and be part of a historic moment as Berks launches its 275th anniversary celebration.

The evening will begin with an invitation-only reception from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by a formal public program from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The program will include welcoming remarks, recognition of the many committee members and volunteers helping bring Berks 275 to life as well as a presentation of photographs from the county’s history.

County historians will highlight major milestones that have shaped Berks over the past 275 years, and county Commissioner Michael Rivera will share reflections on the future of Berks and the opportunities ahead.

The program will also feature promotion of the Berks 275 website and calendar of events showcasing the yearlong celebrations planned across the county, culminating in the official anniversary of the county on March 11, 2027.
