WILKES-BARRE — Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski on Tuesday said he has decided he will not seek reelection this year.
Pashinski, 80, had previously announced his plan to seek an 11th term in the 121st Legislative District, but said after giving it much thought, he opted out and will support the Democratic candidate.
That candidate is reported to be Jessica McClay, current Chair of Wilkes-Barre City Council, who is serving her first term.
The Times Leader reached out to McClay for comment, but she was not available.
Pashinski, a Democrat, said he has established himself as a passionate and consensus-building voice in the General Assembly, working for the things his neighbors need, like property tax relief, jobs that pay a living wage, appropriate funding for public education, reducing the cost of higher education, access to affordable quality health care, and more.
In 2006, he was first elected to represent the 121st Legislative District, which currently consists of the City of Wilkes-Barre, the Borough of Laurel Run, the townships of Plains, Wilkes-Barre, Bear Creek, Buck Township, and the Village of Bear Creek.
“Serving the people of the 121st district has been an honor,” Pashinski said. “I am truly grateful for the trust the people of our community have placed in me. Together, we’ve made real progress.”
