Norristown Area High School was on lockdown on Tuesday afternoon due to a report of a weapon on school grounds, the school district said on Tuesday evening.

The main campus of the high school went into lockdown sometime around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, the district said.

People could be seen lingering outside of the school.

In a statement released at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening, Norristown Area School District officials said that they received a report of a possible weapon on the school’s campus after a fight broke out between students.

A lockdown and a comprehensive search of the school’s campus was initiated with the help of police, but no weapon was found, officials said.

Once the campus was cleared, the school began a gradual dismissal at around 3:30 p.m., officials said.

All after school activities were canceled for Tuesday as well.
