A little more than a year after moving into a new administration building, the Erie School District’s board is considering changes to the room it meets in.

The Erie School Board is scheduled to vote on a motion to renovate the room, providing more space for people to attend monthly meetings and other events held there. The vote is set for the Feb. 11 board meeting at 6 p.m. in the room at the administration building, 1910 Sassafras St.

Officials said the redesign would allow for larger crowd seating at board meetings and other events. Superintendent Natalyn Gibbs said the room is used as a “multipurpose space” for events such as principal meetings and the size and layout can be limiting.

Three options were presented for redesigning the space. The board is scheduled to vote on the one that would cost the most, about $25,000, but would add the most seats, about 80, to the 40 already there by removing a wall, moving an audio-visual room and making another room part of the meeting space.

“Option three would be the most expensive because it would be the most rework,” Assistant Superintendent Neal Brokman said at the board’s Feb. 4 committee meeting.

Before moving to the current administration building, the board had been holding its regular meetings in the auditorium at East Middle School.

Board President Jay Breneman said meeting at East wasn’t without cost, including set up and tear down by staff. He also said the dais is no longer there because it was falling apart.
