SALISBURY TWP., Pa. – Multiple homes were evacuated after a gas leak in Salisbury Township Wednesday morning.

UGI responded to the 200 block of East Emmaus Avenue after the leak was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m., according to Lehigh County dispatchers.

In a Facebook post, the Salisbury Township Police Department said the 200 block of East Emmaus Avenue is closed in both directions at the Salisbury and Allentown border.

Township police said alternate routes will be needed.

In a news release Wednesday, township police said Salisbury School District was notified to alert bus traffic in the area, and school resource officers responded to assist near the high school.

Police said East Emmaus Avenue will remain closed until the incident is cleared. Once the homes and businesses are deemed safe, residents and drivers will be notified, and the roadway reopened, police said.
