WYOMISSING, Pa. — Penn State Berks is celebrating its history while preparing students for the future through National Engineers Week events and activities, to be held Feb. 23 to 27. The college’s roots in engineering date back to 1927, and the University has offered engineering degrees for more than 125 years.
Each year, Penn State Berks celebrates National Engineers Week with events for the campus community and general public. These events include demonstrations, hands-on activities, panels with alumni and industry leaders, visits for high school learners, and so much more.

Engineers Week Introduction
Monday, Feb. 23, noon to 4:30 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building lobby
Student organizations will set up the track and trial runs for the college’s inaugural Pinewood Derby. The competition will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Alumni Panel Discussion
Tuesday, Feb. 24, 6 to 7 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building lobby
This panel discussion includes engineering alumni who will share perspectives and advice on the field of engineering and studying electro-mechanical engineering technology and mechanical engineering at Penn State Berks. This event is open to the Penn State Berks community.
Pinewood Derby Competition
Wednesday, Feb. 25, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building lobby
Penn State Berks will hold its inaugural Pinewood Derby competition. College and high school students, as well as community members, are welcome to compete. Participants may use either a traditional pinewood derby kit or a 3-D printed car. Prizes will be awarded for overall performance and creative design. Advanced registration is required. Engineering Alumni Reception
Wednesday, Feb. 25, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building lobby
Penn State Berks engineering alumni are invited to return to their alma mater for an evening of camaraderie. Attendees will be able to witness the Pinewood Derby and enjoy light refreshments while they reconnect with faculty, students and other alumni. They will also have an opportunity to check out the college’s updated facilities and equipment. This event is for alumni and students. Alumni are asked to register in advance by Feb. 18.
Introduction to Smart Manufacturing Workshop
Thursday, Feb. 26, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building, room 105
This workshop introduces the essentials of smart manufacturing and modern industrial automation. Participants will explore core concepts, technology building blocks and applications that drive business value. Through interactive, hands-on activities, participants will gain experience with the tools and systems essential for smart manufacturing. The workshop is designed to build foundational knowledge, highlight opportunities for business impact and prepare participants to confidently engage with smart manufacturing initiatives. The workshop is offered in partnership with SMART-PA, the Digital Foundry at New Kensington, and the MILL at Penn State Berks. It is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.
High School Student Line-Following Robot Build and Competition
Friday, Feb. 27, 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building / Perkins Student Center / Beaver Wellness and Athletics Center
High school students are invited to compete in the Line-Following Robot Build and Competition and to learn about engineering opportunities at Penn State Berks. Interested students should check with their high school regarding participation.

Penn State Berks is the only college in Berks County to offer two nationally accredited baccalaureate degrees in engineering.
