ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Valentine’s Day is almost here, and Lehigh Valley florists are working hard preparing for their busiest day of the year.

While it may be a last minute holiday for some customers, for Rich Mar Florist, there is nothing last minute about their preparations.

“Late nights, early mornings, grinding the clock. Answering the phone and doing everything. Making orders for everything to go out to the houses,” said Melissa Morrissey co-owner of Rich Mar Florist.

It takes a lot of work to get those flowers to your special someone. The process starts months in advance when flowers are ordered from all over the world.

Once cut at the farms, the flowers are shipped in cool conditions. Then it’s prep time.

“They’re re-cutting the flowers. When you receive them for us, they’ll get cut twice,” Jonathan Morrissey the president of Rich Mar Florist explained the preparation underway ahead of the holiday.

After two cuts, the creating begins. At the same time, orders are being taken and deliveries scheduled so the flowers can make it to your special someone in time for the holiday.

“This is like our Super Bowl. Mother’s Day is the busiest week of the year but Valentines Day is the busiest single day,” said Jonathan.

All that work leading up to Valentine’s Day. If you’re a last-minute shopper, you aren’t alone. The shop expecting a rush this Saturday.

“It’s crazy. People line up at the cooler, people line up everywhere trying to get their stuffed animals, balloons, chocolates, things for their loved one,” said Melissa.

As for the most popular purchase on Valentines Day?

“Valentine’s Day is mostly red roses that has always been the no fail,” Jonathan said.

Rich Mar Florist says they’ll deliver thousands of their no fail flowers this Valentine’s Day.
