Veterinary staff in Philadelphia are on a desperate search for kittens after someone abandoned their nursing mother at their hospital’s doorstep.
Fishtown Animal Hospital reports that on Wednesday, February 12, 2026, a woman left a cat outside their clinic with a note explaining she believed the cat was pregnant.
Once inside, the staff quickly realized the cat was not pregnant at all, but was actively nursing and producing milk.
“This was not a heroic act. She is a nursing mother. By leaving without speaking to our team, you took a mother away from her babies — and gave us no information about where they are. She is not pregnant she is a nursing mom who just had kittens,” the hospital wrote in a social media post.
The hospital is asking the woman, or anyone who knows her, to call and reveal the kittens’ location so they can be rescued.
The hospital warns that without their mother, the kittens’ chances of survival are slim.
“If you kept the kittens and discarded the mother, that is equally devastating. We are asking — human to human — if you have even a shred of compassion, please call us,” the hospital wrote.
