Massive renovation plans for an aging elementary school got the green light from the Erie School Board on Wednesday night.

During Wednesday night’s board meeting, the board unanimously approved five contracts for work at Grover Cleveland Elementary School.

The contracts total more than $23.1 million.

The school near West 38th and Greengarden Boulevard serves students in pre-k through fifth grade.

With the contracts now approved, the plan is to begin the project as soon as the ground thaws.

“We were very happy with the bid results. They came in under budget, which allows us to include all the alternate details in the project that we wish to include in the overall scheme of things,” said Neal Brokman, assistant superintendent of operations.

The school board also approved a resolution to begin planning for an expanded board room inside the newly renovated district headquarters.

If it happens, that project would increase the space and seating for the public during board meetings.
