ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A popular Chinese restaurant that was heavily damaged in a 2025 fire is welcoming back customers in Lehigh County.

Happy Garden, a fast-casual eatery offering Chinese specialties for dine-in, takeout and delivery, reopened on Feb. 4 at 501 N. Seventh St. in Allentown, manager Angie Gonzalez told 69 News.

The eatery had been temporarily closed since Dec. 4, when the business sustained extensive damage from a fire that started in a storage room at the rear portion of the building’s ground floor, Gonzalez said. An exact cause has not yet been determined, Gonzalez said.

Workers spent the past couple of months performing repairs and upgrades, which include new flooring, lighting, counters, kitchen equipment, signage and more, Gonzalez said.

The restaurant’s team is appreciative of the firefighters and other emergency personnel who responded to the blaze as well as the customers and community at large for their continued support over the past couple of months.

“We’re so thankful to everyone,” Gonzalez said.

“The community treats us so well, and we greatly appreciate the fire crews that came and made sure everything was under control.”

Happy Garden caters primarily to takeout and delivery customers, but the eatery also has a few tables for customers wishing to eat at the restaurant, Gonzalez said.

The eatery offers a wide array of freshly prepared Chinese dishes, including fried rice, lo mein, chow mein and mei fun selections, available with additions such as beef, chicken, roast pork, shrimp, lobster and vegetables.

“We can modify each and every items on our menu,” Gonzalez said. “So, if a customer wants something added to or taken away from something, we accommodate those requests and do our best to meet their desires.”

Other menu highlights include soups such as hot and sour, egg drop and wonton; “dieter’s specials” (steamed without oil and featuring no salt, no cornstarch and choice of sauce on side) such as steamed chicken or shrimp with mixed vegetables; and chef specialties such as orange chicken, walnut chicken, sesame shrimp and seafood pan fried noodles, among others.

According to Gonzalez, some of the restaurant’s most popular picks include boneless spare ribs, various egg rolls and spring rolls, barbecue and Buffalo chicken wings, General Tso’s chicken, chicken with garlic sauce, shrimp with broccoli and fried sugar doughnuts.

Happy Garden, which opened in 2007, is open 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 10:30 p.m. Sundays.
