A playoff to determine the Lackawanna League Division I girls basketball title is necessary after Scranton Prep and North Pocono won their respective regular-season finales Thursday.
However, one to determine the Division III championship is not.
Elk Lake used a fourth-quarter surge to defeat No. 9 Montrose, 46-43. The Lady Meteors’ loss, coupled with Mountain View’s 61-8 win over Carbondale Area, gives the Division III crown outright to the Lady Eagles.
Montrose led going into the fourth quarter, 30-28. But with Laci Ayotte and Madisyn Casselbury each scoring six points, Elk Lake outscored the Lady Meteors in the fourth, 18-13, to pull out the victory.
Piper Keeney led the Lady Warriors (10-4 league, 14-8 overall) with 15 points, including 11 in the second half. Ayotte finished with 13 points and Casselbury wound up with 11. Elk Lake shot 5 for 7 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Sadie Jones led Montrose (12-2, 14-8) with 13 points. Vivy Nabywaniec and Molly Weller added 11 points apiece.
Mountain View 61, Carbondale Area 8: At Carbondale Area, Addison Kilmer scored 22 points to power Mountain View to its romp and the Division III title.
Emily Trichilo added 13 points for the No. 10 Lady Eagles (13-1, 16-6).
Maureen Newcomb had four points for Carbondale Area (0-14, 2-20).
Scranton Prep 49, Wallenpaupack 22: At Wallenpaupack, Chloe Mamera had 30 points to lead the No. 1 Classics to a Division I victory.
Ava Fenton added eight points, while McKenna Toolan chipped in five for Scranton Prep (12-2, 17-5).
Ashley Vanderputten and Lily Williams each had five points for Wallenpaupack (3-11, 8-14).
North Pocono 51, Delaware Valley 40: At Delaware Valley, Ella Clementoni had 28 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the No. 2 Lady Trojans to a Division I win.
Anna Clementoni tacked on 15 points for North Pocono (12-2, 18-4).
Leah Bird had 16 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Lady Warriors (3-11, 11-11).
North Pocono and Scranton Prep will meet in a playoff to determine the Division I championship Saturday at a site and time to be determined.
Valley View 50, Scranton 47: At Scranton, Sadie Cardoni and Cora Castellani each had 14 points to lead the No. 5 Cougars to a Division I win.
Castellani added five rebounds, five assists, five steals and one block, and Cardoni chipped in five rebounds and two blocks.
Ava Gazoo added 10 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and one block, and Ali Mauro tacked on eight points for Valley View (10-4, 17-5).
Jaelyn Alers had 24 points, including six 3-pointers, for the No. 6 Lady Knights (7-7, 10-12).
Abington Heights 57, West Scranton 31: At Scranton, Emma Coleman scored 25 points to help No. 4 Abington Heights stop a three-game losing streak and earn a Division I win.
Coleman had 18 of her points in the first half, including 12 in the second quarter when the Lady Comets (9-5, 14-8) outscored West Scranton, 25-5, to build a 26-point halftime lead.
Mia Tallo hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points for the Lady Invaders (0-14, 3-19). In the process, she became the program record holder for career 3-pointers with 193.
Aubrey Kerrigan added 10 points for West Scranton.
Dunmore 52, Old Forge 23: At Dunmore, Amanda Dempsey had 20 points, including four 3-pointers, as the No. 3 Lady Bucks completed a perfect Division II season.
Michelle Nidoh added eight points, and Leena Conte and Jackie Brown each chipped in six for division champ Dunmore (14-0, 19-3), which has won 108 straight league games.
Mikaela Lohman and Lana Clements each had six points for the Lady Devils (2-12, 6-15).
Mid Valley 47, Lakeland 25: At Mid Valley, Addison Frein and Mackenzie Richards each had 13 points to lead the Spartanettes to a Division II win.
Gianna Pelosi added nine points and Parker Bennett tacked on six points for Mid Valley (2-12, 5-17).
Olivia Beier had 10 points for the Lady Chiefs (3-11, 7-15).
Holy Cross 50, Honesdale 31: At Holy Cross, Lila Kolcharno had 16 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Lady Crusaders to a Division II win.
Mollie Urban added 12 points, and Ava Schmidt tacked on nine for Holy Cross (9-5, 12-10).
Ruby Martin and Lily Murray each had 11 points for the No. 8 Lady Hornets (10-4, 16-6).
Blue Ridge 57, Susquehanna 30: At Susquehanna, Abigail Gelinger scored 19 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter, sparking the Lady Raiders to a Division III win.
Lynndee Barbour contributed 21 points for Blue Ridge (7-7, 10-11).
Lauren Huyck scored nine points and Esther Davis added eight for Susquehanna (3-11, 4-17).
Forest City 43, Lackawanna Trail 23: At Forest City, Michaela Zaveri had 11 points to help the Lady Foresters notch a Division III win.
Aundrea Pevec added eight points and Kayla Pecko tacked on seven for Forest City (8-6, 9-13).
Madeleine Forrer had 15 points for the Lady Lions (3-11, 3-19).
Girls wrestling
At Abington Heights, Taylor Shaheen (124) had a pin, and Lucy Ritzco (136) had a 10-4 decision to lead Valley View to a 27-12 victory over Abington Heights on Thursday in a girls wrestling match.
Grace Welch (130) had a pin for the Lady Comets.

Hanover Area 30, Honesdale 21: At Hanover Area, Zoey Elliott picked up a fall at 130 as Hanover Area got the win over Honesdale.
Claire Gyle, Morgan Osburn, Kelianet Hernandez de la Cruz and Gabriella Griffith all received forfeits for the Hawkeyes.
Isabel Whalen, Maddison Miller, Leonora Anton and Saige Olver were all winners for the Hornets.
