LEESPORT, Pa. – Schuylkill Valley Elementary School dismissed students early on Monday and canceled classes on Tuesday after a heating failure affected several areas of the building.
The Principal’s Office told 69 News that there are 12 classrooms without heat, and several leaking pipes contributed to the issue.
Students and staff were able to return to class on Wednesday due to the installation of portable heating units. In the meantime, TRANE and other companies are making repairs to restore heat throughout the entire building.
Acting Superintendent Dr. Patrick T. Winters released a statement notifying the families of the students:
“TRANE has assessed the heating issues in the building and has determined what needs fixed and addressed. The district has developed a plan in conjunction with TRANE to complete the necessary repairs. However, given possible delays in the arrival of replacement parts; the district’s strong desire to get students back in school; and a need to ensure that staff and students have warm, climate-controlled learning spaces, TRANE will be installing temporary portable heat pumps in the 12 classrooms that were impacted.”
