PITTSTON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — After a water main break left several Pittston residents without running water Wednesday, The Hive Salon Collective began offering free hair-wash services to anyone affected by the outage.
Owner and stylist Sarah Perrego said she woke up that morning without water in her home and realized many people had no access to basic hygiene.
Because the salon has not experienced a water outage in its building, she decided to open its wash stations to the community at no cost.
Staff members are not able to provide full blowouts for every person, but they are making space throughout the day to help residents feel clean and comfortable during the disruption.
The service will remain available as long as water service is out, though Perrego hopes the outage does not extend through the week.
Several people have already visited the salon, with some opting for simple styling such as braids or towel-drying with product.
Perrego said her deep connection to Pittston and its residents drives the salon’s involvement in community efforts, especially during difficult moments.
“So I know how much it means to me that the people local to Pittston support us and trust us and sit in our chairs and come here to get their hair done and feel good about that and support us and post about us and stuff. And who would we be if we weren’t able to give back to those people when we have the opportunity, when we have the resources and they do not. That is kind of what it is all about,” said Perrego.
Anyone without water can schedule a free wash by calling the salon’s front desk.
The staff is arranging appointments around existing clients to minimize wait times.
