There is a chance of snow Friday night in the Philadelphia region of southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the National Weather Service says, but it should not amount to much.
The NWS morning forecast discussion said the chance of snow has increased, mainly north of Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania and Interstate 195 in New Jersey. Accumulation, if any, is predicted to be just a few tenths of an inch.
The storm NWS was tracking earlier this week to hit the area Sunday into Monday now appears to be taking a more southerly tract, so there should be less impact for the Philly region, it said. Precipitation could be rain closer to the coast, but could start off as a rain-snow mix.
Temperatures finally will climb into the normal range Saturday and Sunday.
“However, one last chilly day of temperatures below normal are expected for today,” the NWS discussion stated. “While skies will be mainly sunny for today, highs only top out in the low to mid-30s. Clouds increase ahead of a weak system moving through tonight, though lows will drop into the mid- to upper teens and low 20s, which is about 2 to 5 degrees below normal depending on the location.”
Normal February temperatures for the region range from a high of 44.3 to a low of 27.5, according to the NWS.
The coming week could bring a veritable heat wave compared to the bitter temperatures the areas has been experiencing. High temperatures Tuesday through Thursday are predicted to be near 50 degrees.
