Michael Joseph DeCarlo

OBITUARY

Michael Joseph DeCarlo, 70, of Taylor, a devoted husband, proud father, and loyal friend to many, passed away Wednesday, February 4, at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife of 38 years, Kathleen Ann (Kearney) DeCarlo, who passed away on May 21, 2023 a loss he carried deeply in his heart.

Born in Scranton, Mike was the only child of the late Michael and Amelia (Destefano) DeCarlo. A 1973 graduate of Dunmore High School, he proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout an achievement that reflected the character, dedication, and quiet leadership he carried throughout his life, and this carried over to the 30 years, he devoted to UPS.

He was a parishioner of Divine Mercy Parish in Scranton. His faith, family, and friendships were the center of his life.

Mike found joy in the simple, meaningful things casting a line while fishing, gathering around the bar with food he prepared himself (especially his homemade pizza), celebrating St. Patricks Day with enthusiasm each year, watching football, Dirty Harry, James Bond and Americas funnies home videos, along with his weekly pool games at the VFW, Dunmore. He was also a social member of St. Georges Social Club in Taylor, where he enjoyed the fellowship of friends.

Above all, Mikes greatest pride and love was his son, Michael. Being a father was the role he cherished most.

Left to honor his memory is his beloved son, Michael; three brothers-in-law, John (Nancy) Kearney of Scranton, Patrick Kearney and Luiz Andrilli, San Diego, CA, and Michael (Angela) Kearney of Cape May, N.J.; a dear cousin Frank and wife Judy DeCarlo, Clarks Summit; a lifelong friend Gretchen and husband Matt Mackie, Waverly; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will miss his steady presence and warm heart.

Family and friends may call Thursday, February 19th, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 20th, at 10:00 AM in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, by the Reverend Paul McDonnell, O.S.J. Interment will follow at St. Catherines Cemetery, Moscow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Food Pantry.
