Paul Joseph Wylam
OBITUARY
Paul Joseph Wylam, 81 of Old Forge passed away peacefully Thursday morning surrounded by his family at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was the son of the late Ralph and Margaret Cassidy Wylam. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan.
Paul was a lifelong resident of Old Forge. A proud graduate of Old Forge High School he continued to cheer on the Blue Devils long after his grid iron days. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for Superior Fireproof Door and Sash Co. until its closure and co-owned GI’s bar in the 197’0s and then again in the early 1980’s. However, most will remember Paul as a self-employed gaming agent.
He was a loyal friend to many and his voice could be heard (loudly) on many days at Salerno’s and several other local Old Forge establishments. However, Paul’s most cherished role was that of Poppy. He dedicated his life to his grandchildren Cael and Cassidy. He never missed watching hockey, lacrosse or cheerleading. He was their biggest fan and supporter, even getting kicked out of one of Cael’s high school lacrosse games because he disagreed with the referee on several calls.
He is survived by his son, Attorney Paul Wylam, Jr. and wife Kimberly of Clarks Summit; and two grandchildren, P. Caelan of Philadelphia and Cassidy Wylam of Clarks Summit.
Paul and his family would like to thank his many friends, especially Bob who helped above and beyond with appointments and errands while sharing a weekly breakfast or lunch. The family would also like to thank Dr. Armando Sallavanti and the staff at Geisinger CMC’s, emergency department, CCU and ICU for their outstanding and compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at noon at St. Ann’s Basilica, 1233 St. Ann Street, Scranton. Private burial, Marcy Cemetery in Duryea. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4 – 7:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the St. Joseph’s Center Foundation c/o 2010 Adams, Scranton, PA 18509.
