A nine-year-old boy was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in West Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

According to police, the incident happened at about 12:22 p.m. on Sunday when a nine-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle — described as a 2010-2013 Honda Crosstour — along the 800 block of South 56th Street.

Police did not detail how the crash occurred, but said the Crosstour that fled the scene was mostly burgundy in color, with a black passenger-side fender, a green passenger-side front door, and a white passenger-side rear door. It also has a bicycle rack on the roof, officials said.

The vehicle was being driven at the time by a man who, officials said, was likely 25 to 35 years old, with short hair and a beard.

Following the crash, the child was taken to a nearby hospital where, as of Sunday morning, they were listed in stable condition, according to police.

An investigation into this incident is ongoing, officials said.
