Less than an inch of snow is now expected Sunday night in the Lehigh Valley before a warmup and “unsettled pattern” take hold this week.

The National Weather Service said snow from a storm passing to our south could begin falling between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and would taper off by early Monday morning. A rain and snow mix is expected in areas south of the Lehigh Valley.

Forecast models overnight showed expected snowfall totals from the storm trending downward. On Saturday afternoon, forecasters had said the region could see up to two inches of snow.

Temperatures are likely going to be above normal, in the mid-40s, during a period of several chances for rain and mixed precipitation this week, according to forecasters. There is a chance of rain Wednesday through Saturday, with Wednesday and Friday having the highest likelihood.

Higher elevations could get freezing rain or snow.

“With these systems though, we are not currently expecting moderate or major impacts,” meteorologists wrote Sunday in their daily forecast discussion. “In fact, for most of the region, it will be more of a beneficial rain.”

Both Northampton and Lehigh counties are under a drought watch by the state Department of Environmental Protection. The Lehigh Valley has had about 14 inches of rain the past six months, which is about 9 inches below normal, according to weather service data.

Some light rain and snow is expected for tonight, producing minor accumulations over the northern half of the area. Further south towards Philly, more of a rain/snow mix cuts into any accumulation.
