ERIE, Colo. — A 2-year-old child was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Erie Sunday afternoon, police said. 

Police said the crash happened around 4:40 p.m. Sunday in the neighborhood northeast of Mountain View Boulevard and Village Vista Drive. First responders responded immediately, but the child died despite lifesaving efforts, police said. 

Police said the driver left the scene. Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to call Boulder County dispatch at 303-441-4444.

Erie police said this was the third serious traffic crash in the town this weekend. Just after midnight Sunday morning, a driver was killed and a passenger was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Erie Parkway, police said. Both victims were 18-year-old men from Commerce City. Police said the initial investigation indicates the driver was speeding when he crossed the median and hit a guardrail. 

Friday night just before 10 p.m., police said, a 15-year-old on an electric motorized vehicle was seriously injured in a collision with a car at the intersection of Erie Parkway and Briggs Street.
