Reading Hospital, The Junior League of Reading and Berks Teens are hosting “Let’s Talk, Period,” a free event focused on menstrual equity and period positivity for teens and tweens. It will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences, 1025 Old Wyomissing Road, Reading. Youth in grades 3-8 and trusted adults are invited to attend. Space is limited, and registration is required.
Panelists include Dr. Olubunmi Ojikutu, Reading Hospital pediatrics chair; Dr. Nina Duke of Tower Health Medical Group Pediatrics – Wyomissing; and Junior League member Dr. Jennifer Mueller of Clear Dermatology.
Light refreshments will be served, and each attendee will receive a period pampering kit containing menstrual products, personal care items, informational materials and giveaways.
Attendees are encouraged to donate new or gently used bras of all sizes and styles, which will be collected at the event and distributed to agencies supporting those in need.

Black History Month
State Rep. Manny Guzman has scheduled a Black History Month celebration for Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the WCR Center for the Arts, 140 N. Fifth St.
This free event will honor the legacy and contributions of the Black community while providing an opportunity for engagement and community pride. Guzman said he will be honoring 32 community leaders, including religious figures, government officials, educator, and business owners.
Guzman’s staff will be available to provide information about state programs and services that support families.

Beginning gardening
The Wyomissing Public Library is holding free classes on starting a garden starting Friday and continuing weekly through March 6. Sessions will be led by veteran gardeners David Walker and Dave Sanford, who will offer tips for people with any size property. The focus is on beginner gardeners with little or no experience.

Berks anniversary
Berks County invites the community to join in celebrating the kickoff of Berks 275, commemorating the 275th anniversary of the county’s incorporation. The event takes place March 11 in the Miller Center for the Arts at Reading Area Community College.
The public program runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will include welcoming remarks, recognition of committee members and volunteers and a brief overview of photographs from the county’s rich history. Historians will highlight Berks milestones, and Commissioner Michael Rivera will share reflections.
This kickoff event marks the beginning of a countywide commemoration honoring Berks County’s past, celebrating its present and looking to its future.

Reading Public Library is offering the Great Decisions Discussion Group Series on Tuesdays from March 17 to May 12. The group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Reading Public Library Foundation Building, 113 S. Fourth St.

Arboretum volunteers
The Reading Public Museum Arboretum Assistant Program is seeking volunteers. Gardening sessions take place Wednesday mornings from 9 to noon from the first week in April through the end of October.
Prospective Arboretum Assistants should attend a required training/informational session on March 18 at 8:30 a.m. (inclement weather date is March 25) in the museum planetarium. The Wellness Council of Boyertown’s 19th annual Wellness Fair takes place March 14 at Boyertown High School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free. Health-related vendors will be available to share information and answer questions.
The activities will start with the Community Impact Walk at 9 a.m. followed by the Running of the Bears competition at 9:30. The fair officially opens at 10. Senior Bingo Walking will be held at 10:30. The Kids Celebrity Chef healthy cooking competition starts at 11.

Pollinator workshop
A pollinator workshop will be held March 22 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Wayside Lodge at the Daniel Boone Homestead in Exeter Township.
Heritage Art and Craft Studio will lead the educational program in which participants can create their own pollinator house and learn the secrets of a flourishing garden by attracting pollinators? Attract pollinators using 16-inch, Amish-made wooden Pollinator House and natural materials such as twigs, pinecones and moss. Participants will learn about the significance of garden-friendly insects, their role in the ecosystem and how to cultivate a garden that thrives throughout the year.
This workshop is suitable for all ages (adult supervision required). All materials will be provided.
