SCRANTON, Pa. – Geisinger Community Medical Center has been recognized by Healthgrades® as one of America’s 250 Best HospitalsTM for overall care, ranking it among the top 5% of hospitals nationally in hospital-wide performance. 

Healthgrades selected the top 250 hospitals for 2026 by evaluating clinical performance for about 4,500 hospitals across more than 30 common procedures and conditions, using mortality rate and complication rate data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. 

The Scranton hospital also received Clinical Excellence Awards in four specialties:

Heart failure
Stroke
Pulmonary care
Critical care

“These awards highlight the sustained excellence and dedication of our care and support teams, and reinforce our commitment to quality, safety and patient experience,” said Navneet Dang, M.D., chief medical officer for Geisinger’s system hospitals. “This work is never finished, because there is always more to do to improve in these areas. But our staff deserves to be proud of this recognition because of the difference they make for our patients.”

Geisinger Community Medical Center is a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Heart Failure this year and for the two previous years, and for Treatment of Pneumonia in 2026. 
The hospital received the Healthgrades 2026 Stroke Care Excellence Award, was named among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for Treatment of Stroke in 2026 and is a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Stroke this year and for the five previous years.
The medical center also received the Healthgrades 2026 Critical Care Excellence Award, was named among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for Critical Care in 2026, is a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Sepsis this year and for the six previous years, and is a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Respiratory Failure this year and for the five previous years.
