A Throop man sliced his girlfriend with a knife, leaving a wound on her arm that required 27 stitches, Archbald police charge.

Police found Samantha Fanelli holding a blood-soaked towel to her left arm Sunday just after 4 p.m. The Archbald woman told an emergency medical technician her boyfriend, Shaun Cohen, cut her with a “weird knife” that he bought at Home Depot, police said. Fanelli, 29, was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center for treatment.

Fanelli told police that Cohen, 30, began harassing her after a shopping trip before spitting on her, punching her in the back and cutting her left triceps with a knife, police said.

Cohen also smashed two of Fanelli’s cellphones and two TVs, causing about $800 worth of damage.

Police charged Cohen with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief.

As of Monday, Cohen, 107 Bellman St., remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 23 at 10:45 a.m.
