As tax season gets underway, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) is reminding Pennsylvanians who received Unemployment Compensation (UC) benefits in 2025 to watch for their 1099-G tax form they’ll need to file a tax return this year — and encouraging eligible workers to take advantage of the new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, a refundable credit that can put hundreds of dollars back in taxpayers’ pockets.

“Tax season can be stressful, and we want Pennsylvanians to have the information they need to file accurately and on time,” said L&I Secretary Nancy A. Walker. “Checking your 1099-G early can help avoid delays — and many working families may also qualify for a new tax credit that can make a real difference.”

What to know about 1099-G forms

Pennsylvanians who received UC benefits in 2025 will receive a 1099-G form, which reports taxable UC income and is required to file federal and state tax returns. Forms are now available in claimants’ online UC dashboards, and paper copies are being mailed and will arrive over the coming weeks.

An extensive FAQ is available on L&I’s website to help claimants review their forms and request corrections if needed.

Because 1099-G forms are automatically generated, receiving one when you did not file for UC benefits may indicate identity theft. Pennsylvanians who believe their identity was used fraudulently should report it to L&I immediately, either online or by calling the PA Fraud Hotline at 1-800-692-7469.

Victims of identity theft should not delay filing their tax returns and should report only their true income — not any fraudulent income listed on the 1099-G. More information about identity theft and 1099-G tax forms is available on the IRS website.

Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit

This tax season, eligible workers may qualify for the new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, a refundable state tax credit created to support working families. Pennsylvanians who received UC or other health and human services benefits may still be eligible if they had earned income during the year.

Modeled after the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit equals 10% of the federal EITC and can provide up to $805 to eligible taxpayers.

Under Gov. Josh Shapiro’s leadership, taxpayers who qualify for the federal EITC will automatically receive the state credit when they file their federal and Pennsylvania tax returns online at the same time.

The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue offers an online calculator and step-by-step guidance to help taxpayers determine eligibility and estimate their credit.

Tips for claiming the credit

• File your federal and state tax returns online at the same time.

• Ensure the Department of Revenue receives your federal Form 1040.

• The credit is refundable, meaning you can receive it even if you owe no Pennsylvania income tax.

Under the Shapiro Administration, L&I continues to strengthen Pennsylvania’s UC system to ensure timely, accurate information and responsive support for claimants.

Great American Getaway 400 returning

Pennsylvania is gearing up to start its engine once again for The Great American Getaway 400 presented by Visit PA, which is returning to Pocono Raceway on Sunday, June 14.

This is the third consecutive year Gov. Josh Shapiro has renewed his Administration’s partnership with Pocono Raceway, reaffirming his commitment to growing Pennsylvania’s tourism industry.

One of NASCAR’s premier events, The Great American Getaway 400, will be part of a NASCAR triple-header weekend, bringing racing fans and global attention to Pennsylvania. The weekend has been a staple of the state’s tourism industry since Pocono Raceway hosted its first NASCAR race in 1971.

The event is estimated to generate between $75 million and $100 million in annual economic impact for the Commonwealth, attracting fans from all 50 states and more than a dozen countries, benefiting businesses, hotels, and restaurants throughout the region.

“NASCAR Cup Series races are some of the biggest and best sporting events in the world — and nobody does it better than Pennsylvania,” said Gov. Shapiro. “The famous ‘Tricky Triangle’ has drawn fans from around the world to the Poconos for more than 50 years, providing a huge economic jolt for hotels, restaurants, and small businesses in the region. This event showcases everything that makes Pennsylvania a top-tier destination for visitors in 2026, as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, and host other major events throughout the Commonwealth, from the NFL Draft to the FIFA World Cup. We’re excited to welcome millions of visitors to Pennsylvania this year and showcase why Pennsylvania is The Great American Getaway.”

The 160-lap, 400-mile event will be broadcast live nationally on Amazon Prime Video and across more than 195 countries through NASCAR’s international television partners. The race, which begins at 3:00 PM ET, also will be carried live nationally on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM. NASCAR’s global reach will put Pennsylvania in front of millions, with coverage extending to 195 countries in more than 29 languages.

“This partnership goes far beyond a race entitlement — it’s about showcasing Pennsylvania on a global stage while delivering meaningful economic impact to the region,” said Pocono Raceway President Ben May. “NASCAR has been part of our DNA for more than five decades, and this continued investment helps ensure that tradition remains strong while creating unforgettable race weekend experiences for the fans who make Pocono Raceway such a special place year after year.”

AG’s office secures conviction, $3M payment

Attorney General Dave Sunday this week announced that a central Pennsylvania-based amusement company has pleaded guilty to a felony charge regarding the installation and operation of hundreds of illegal video gambling devices at bars, convenience stores, and other locations in numerous counties.

Schuylkill County-based Deibler Brothers Novelty Company pleaded guilty Friday to corrupt organizations, a first-degree felony. A Schuylkill County Common Pleas Judge sentenced the company to probation and ordered a forfeiture of $3 million in cash and assets to the state.

The company was charged in 2024, following a collaborative investigation between the Pennsylvania State Police and the Office of the Attorney General, which included a presentment from the 50th Statewide Investigating Grand Jury.

The company installed the devices in more than a dozen Pennsylvania counties, the machines typically cloaked in deceptive signage indicating they were legal.

“This company was warned time and time again, and continued to snub its nose at state regulations by flooding Pennsylvania counties with illegal gambling machines,” AG Sunday said. “This plea resolution secures a substantial forfeiture of assets to the Commonwealth, and is the second conviction in recent days against offenders contributing to the disorganized environment of illegal video gaming in Pennsylvania.”

The charges resulted from a multi-year criminal investigation led by the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General’s Organized Crime and Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering sections, and the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement into illegal video gambling activities.
