The Pittsburgh Steelers saw a new option hit the open free agent market on Monday when the Miami Dolphins released Tyreek Hill.
Hill suffered a gruesome knee injury in September when he was a trade candidate that the Steelers could have targeted. Now, he will be a free agent, though the injury has to be vetted.
The Dolphins released Hill with a failed physical designation, meaning that Hill’s knee is unlikely to be in a good place over four months after his serious knee injury.
After his surgery, Hill tore multiple ligaments in his knee, including his ACL. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said that Hill is recovering and continuing to get back to full strength. Hill also vowed to return to the field.
Before his injury, the NFL was conducting a probe into Hill for a domestic violence situation with his ex-wife. That means Hill could face a suspension from the NFL.
Hill’s play is not what it once was at the height of his career. He had just 959 receiving yards in 17 games in 2024, a stark drop off from his 1700 receiving yards in 2023, where was a Pro Bowler.
That was before his injury, which teams will have to vet before signing the once dynamic All-Pro wide receiver.
