SCRANTON, Kan. – Carl Franklin Winans, 84, passed away Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kan. He was born Feb. 26, 1941, on the family farm near Scranton, Kan., the son of Frank and Helen (Hallowell) Winans.

Carl had lived all of his life around the Scranton community. He had lived on his farm for the last 68 years. Carl was a cattle rancher and farmer, while also working for the Osage County Road and Bridge Department for 32 years. He had been a member of the Osage County Fire District No. 1, at Carbondale, for 30 years, and had served in the Army Reserves for six years.

Carl was united in marriage to Dolores Wanda Hollingdale, April 5, 1969, in Scranton. To this union two daughters were born, Carol and Wendy.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, on Feb. 28, 2017; his parents, Frank and Helen; brother, Ben Winans; and stepson, Ed Hollingdale.

Carl is survived by his two daughters, Carol (John) Dorr, of Burlingame, Kan., and Wendy (David) Robert, Osage City, Kan.; stepdaughter, Dawn Bigford, of Mississippi; three brothers, Brock Winans, of New Jersey, Donald Winans, of Arizona, and Raymond Winans, Olathe, Kan.; two sisters, Rachel Winans, Topeka, Kan., and Madge Freeman, of Indiana; four grandchildren, Dalton (Megan) Dorr, Ashton (Danen) Kistner, Colton Robert and Casie Robert; four great-grandchildren, Kobie, Macklyn, Trace and Aspyn, with one on the way in June; his friend, Jan Koehler, of Texas; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the chapel. Burial will be in the ValleyBrook Cemetery.
