Christine Riley (Hooper) Ostroski
OBITUARY
Christine Riley (Hooper) Ostroski, 57, of Greentown, passed away Sunday February 15 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, after facing cancer with strength for 17 years. Her husband of 29 years is Richard Ostroski, Jr.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Chris was the daughter of the late Robert Willard Hooper. She was a 1987 graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, where she was captain of the school’s swim team. Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Wilkes University and went on to work in many fundraising, sales, development, and marketing capacities. Most notably, she served as Director of Candy’s Place Cancer Wellness Center in Forty-Fort, a position she took great pride in as a cancer survivor herself, and currently, Chris worked as Director of Campus Development at Penn-State Scranton, where she had many treasured colleagues and friends.
As an avid boater and lake lover, Chris was also well-known in her Lake Wallenpaupack community. She served on the board of the Lake Wallenpaupack Yacht Club, and she and her husband, Rick, owned and operated Lake Life Pursuit, a lake-themed apparel and dcor store near their home.
Naturally charismatic and a people-person, Chris never allowed illness to define her or limit her capabilities. She persevered for many years with remarkable resilience and grace, drawing strength from her Christian faith and remaining her family’s greatest supporter. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Chris’s family extends their gratitude to Dr. David Greenwald and his staff, for their wonderful care over the years and for treating Chris like family.
Also surviving are a daughter, Tegan, a son, Nathan; a brother, Robert W. Hooper Jr; a brother-in-law, Mark, and wife, Renee; her mother-in-law, Lois Ostroski; three nephews, Dylan Ostroski and Mark Ostroski Jr., and Robert W. Hooper III; as well as several cousins and many beloved friends.
Chris was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Hooper, her beloved grandmother, Betty Riley, and her father-in-law, Richard A. Ostroski, Sr.
The funeral will be Friday, February 20, at 10 a.m. at the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., with services by Pastor Dave Lee of Grace Bible Church, followed by interment in Saint Stanislaus Polish National Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends and family may call on Thursday February 19, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Penn State Scranton for the Ostroski Family Scholarship, 120 Ridgeview Drive, Dunmore, PA 18512, which benefits needful adult students, as well as the Medical Oncology Prescription Fund at the Medical Oncology Associates, 382 Pierce Street, Kingston, PA 18704.
