OBITUARY

Inez Joan Iori, 89, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Born September 27, 1936, she was the daughter of Ralph Iori Sr. and Florence Flora Iori and was raised in Southside Scranton.

She is survived by her husband, George Stabilito; her brother, Ralph Iori Jr., Esq., and his wife, Charlotte; her children, G. After graduating from Temple University, she married Gerald K. Smith Jr. and began her career as a lab technician at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She later worked in pharmaceutical research at SmithKline & French while pursuing graduate studies at St. Josephs University, and went on to join Merck & Co., contributing to drug development research.

During the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while her middle son was battling the disease, she participated in antiviral research efforts, an experience that remained deeply meaningful to her.

Inez loved animals, especially her Shih Tzus and Yorkshire Terriers, and enjoyed traveling widely, including trips to Italy and China. She valued her years in Philadelphia, particularly in Germantown, where she remained active in the community and formed lifelong friendships.

She and George later retired to the Poconos near Lake Wallenpaupack, a place she had loved since childhood.
