Benjamin Delp

OBITUARY

Benjamin Delp passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Sentara RMH Medical Center. Born in Allentown, PA to Shannon Delp and the late Richard Delp.

Ben earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from James Madison University. Over the past 20 years, Ben proved himself an invaluable colleague and friend to many across the JMU community. Beyond the day-to-day, Ben was a steward of charitable community work, serving on the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Planning Committee and leading an annual food drive in support of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

Outside of work, Ben was a beloved man by most everyone he met in both the Boyertown, PA and Harrisonburg, VA communities. He could regularly be found planning his next vacation, running in all extreme weather conditions throughout the year, cooking for friends and family, reading one of many non-fiction books in his ongoing reading list, rooting for the Birds, or simply hanging around downtown Harrisonburg with his wife and friends.

Ben’s spirit was infectious and he will be deeply missed by his wife, Tonya Lambert Delp; mother, Shannon Delp; his sister, Johanna Delp (Jeffrey); his niece and nephew, Ava and Harrison Balfour; his puppo, Kona, and the many friends he has made along the way.

The Benjamin T. Delp (’05, ‘08M) Memorial Fund at JMU has been created by Ben’s family.
