ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The famous Oscar Mayer Weinermobile made a stop at the America On Wheels Museum in Allentown Sunday afternoon. People lined up to check it out, but an international animal rights organization was also there in protest.

Hot Dogger with Oscar Mayer, Trey O’Shea said the vehicle fit right in parked outside the museum. “It’s fitting to have the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile, which is an icon” he said. “It’s been around since 1936.”

The Weinermobile turns 90 this year. “The Weinermobile transcends generations, so having people come and say I remember when I saw this with my grandparents and others bringing their own grandchildren,” said O’Shea.

As people lined up to take pictures and explore the vehicle, but not far away was another vehicle.

PETA parked their pig truck outside the museum as well.

The truck, covered with painted pigs, plays what PETA says are the “actual recorded sounds of panicked screams of slaughter-bound pigs.”

In a statement PETA’s president, Tracy Reiman said, “Frank-ly, the Wienermobile is peddling the ground-up body parts of terrified animals. PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ truck is an appeal to everyone to be kind by choosing tasty vegan meals, including delicious Oscar Mayer veggie dogs.”

Oscar Mayer had no comment on PETA’s truck.
