ERIE – Winter months are among the most challenging times of year to maintain a stable blood supply, and the Community Blood Bank (CBB) is urging donors to step up and help ensure local hospitals have the blood they need to care for patients. Seasonal illnesses, winter weather, and canceled appointments often lead to fewer donations, while the need for blood remains constant.
Throughout February, the Community Blood Bank will host blood drives across the region, encouraging donors to give when it is needed most. By donating during the winter months, community members help ensure patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, trauma care, and emergency procedures continue to receive lifesaving blood products. Donors are invited to give at the Erie Donor Center or at an upcoming mobile blood drive in the community:

To thank donors for making the effort to donate during a critical time of year, all presenting donors at the Erie Donor Center or at mobile blood drives throughout February will receive a limited-edition sweatshirt.

Community Blood Bank partners with hospitals in Northwest P¬ennsylvania and Western New York to provide blood for patients in need. If you are at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and are in good general health, you may be eligible to donate blood. You must have a valid photo ID to donate.
