– Rock fans, rejoice. Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska” album is the subject of “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” the new movie starring Jeremy Allen White as the Boss. But before “Nebraska,” there was New Jersey, where an act of kindness by Springsteen’s mother, Adele, kickstarted his career. We’ll tell you all about it today on “I Never Knew That.” Growing up in Freehold, New Jersey, Springsteen wanted to become a rocker thanks to Elvis Presley, whose famous performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” left a big impression. Of course, every good rocker needs a good guitar, so sometime around her son’s 16th birthday, Adele Springsteen took out a loan to buy Bruce his own Kent guitar. “It was the world to me the night I got that,” Springsteen told “The Graham Norton Show” in 2024. The experience also inspired the lyrics to his popular song, “The Wish.” Safe to say, it was a pretty good investment. Springsteen went on to record multiple iconic albums, including “Nebraska,” and is a 20-time Grammy winner. Sadly, Adele Springsteen died in 2024, but her generosity remains a key part of Bruce’s legacy. You can learn more about the glory days of Springsteen’s career at biography.com and we’ll see you back here soon on “I Never Knew That.” Rock on. – [Crew Member] Yeah, man.
