A 76-year-old Berks County woman was the pedestrian who was fatally struck Monday afternoon by a pickup truck in the parking lot of Boscov’s East in Exeter Township, police said.
Ann Arena of Caernarvon Township was pronounced dead in Reading Hospital at 3:01 p.m. Monday by a staff doctor, Berks County Coroner Matthew Stitzel said. A determination on the cause and manner of death is pending further investigation, he said.
A second pedestrian, also a woman, was also struck and injured, but her condition wasn’t immediately available.
The truck was turning into a travel lane in front of the store at 4500 Perkiomen Ave. about 2:15 p.m. when it struck both women, who were crossing the lot, Exeter police said.
Both women were taken by ambulance to Reading Hospital.
Police withheld the name of the other woman.
The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the police.
The Exeter police department’s traffic safety unit is continuing to investigate.
