Man leads police on interstate chase from New York to Scranton

The chase ended near mile marker 191 on I-81 south in Scranton Tuesday morning.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A police chase that started in New York State ended in the Electric City on Tuesday.

Police say officers in New York responded to reports of gunfire when the suspect fled the scene, leading police on a chase from I-81 south in New York through Susquehanna County and into Lackawanna County, nearly causing multiple crashes and striking a tractor-trailer.

Troopers were eventually able to stop the suspect’s vehicle with a ‘PIT’ maneuver near mile marker 191 on I-81 south in Scranton, taking the driver into custody.

Investigators have not yet released the suspect’s identity, but say the investigation remains ongoing.
