A family is safe after crews battled a basement fire early Tuesday in Hanover Township, Northampton County.

Township Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Scott VanWhy told lehighvalleylive.com flames ignited just after midnight at the two-story home in the 4400 block of Lenox Drive.

All occupants safely evacuated on their own, he said. There were no reported injuries.

A second alarm initially was requested for more manpower but was later recalled, though a few units remained. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the flames under control, VanWhy said.

The home sustained minor fire damage and moderate smoke damage. Township fire officials are investigating the cause, VanWhy said.

The family was allowed to return to the home later Tuesday.
