BETHLEHEM – Congratulations to fifth grader Charlie Fusco for winning the second annual Scripps Spelling Bee at Bethlehem Elementary School on February 6. The ten winners from each class in first through fifth grades met for a terrific final round with more than 60 words from the word bank. Charlie correctly spelled the winning word – dubious. Fifth grader Jonah Fort was the runner-up.
To prepare for the Spelling Bee, students in first through fifth grade were given a word bank of 450 words to study. The first round consisted of classroom competitions, and the 10 classroom winners then met for the final event. Congratulations to all the students who opted to join this Spelling Bee at BES and continue the tradition. Charlie will represent Bethlehem Elementary School and Region 14 at the state competition in March.
