A Binghamton man has been charged with attempted murder following a domestic dispute that led to a vehicle pursuit.
Members of the Binghamton Police Department responded to a report of a domestic dispute at about 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 17 at 13 Park Terrace Place in the City of Binghamton. Before officers arrived at the scene, another call came through reporting shots were fired into the occupied house at the location.
Another call came through and officers were made aware that the suspect fled the scene by motor vehicle. That vehicle was later determined to be stolen.
At the scene, Binghamton Police Officers located the involved victim, found evidence of gunfire present and discovered that the natural gas line to the residence was severed.
Responding officers were able to locate the fleeing vehicle. The suspect, now identified as Diriki Birden, 53, refused to comply and continued to flee after police attempted to stop the vehicle.
Binghamton Police continued to pursue Birden through the city and southbound on I-81. The chase continued southbound, eventually entering Pennsylvania where Pennsylvania State Police were able to assist.
Pennsylvania State Police continued the pursuit on I-81 southbound until the vehicle came to rest. Birden was taken into custody in Scranton, Pennsylvania, by pursuing Pennsylvania State Troopers.
Birden has been charged by the Binghamton Police Department with two counts of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
Binghamton police determined that the matter was an incident of targeted domestic violence. A firearm was recovered at the scene of the shooting, but no victims were struck by gunfire and all victims were physically uninjured.

Birden remains in the custody of Pennsylvania State Police. He faces additional charges in Pennsylvania.
