(WHTM)– Pennsylvania will be on the front lines of fighting cancer and will benefit from a huge investment by a major drug manufacturer.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro called the investment a win-win for the economy and the medical community when he announced it at Johnson & Johnson headquarters on Wednesday morning.
Healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson is responsible for the investment, which promises more than 500 new jobs in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Johnson & Johnson also pledged to build a manufacturing facility to produce what it calls next-generation cell therapy for cancer patients. Thousands of construction workers will be needed for the project, which will cost more than $1 billion.
The healthcare giant already has a large presence in Pennsylvania, but the state has committed $14 million in tax credits and $27.5 million in grants to secure the facility’s construction. The state is also promising faster permitting and siting to reduce red tape.
“I want to thank you for betting on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. But most importantly, I want to thank you and your team for truly this state-of-the-art therapy manufacturing facility that you will build here that I know are going to change lives, save lives, keep families together, and do extraordinary things for the world,” Shapiro said.
Pennsylvania is home to 10 Johnson & Johnson facilities, employing nearly 6,000 workers and generating $10 billion in economic impact statewide.
